Jefferson City — The Missouri Association of Sheltered Workshop Managers (MASWM) announces that HCR 28 passed with an overwhelming majority of 152 to 1 vote on the House Floor yesterday. HCR 28 was sponsored by Representative Rory Rowland from Independence.
HCR 28 reaffirms the Missouri Legislatures full support for choice of employment for the 6300+ employees currently working in Missouri’s sheltered workshop program. HCR 28 is a resolution that fully supports Missouri’s sheltered workshops a viable employment option for those who choose to or cannot work in competitive employment. HCR 28 had the bi-partisan support of over 100 co-sponsors.
Over 50 employees as well as family members traveled to Jefferson City yesterday as this resolution went to the House floor for a vote. This resolution sends a strong message to Washington DC regarding the importance of choice in employment. A-Team Missouri was there in force with over 50 members present to support this very important piece of legislation. A-Team Missouri is a non-for-profit self -advocacy group represented by employees and their families.
